Because of their reputation EOS Europe were awarded the electrical and instrumentation scope of works for a recent FPSO – Life Extension Drydock (LED) upgrade project which focused on an Upgrade of the Integrated Control & Safety System (ICSS)

The scope of work involved the replacement of the ICSS Hazardous Area Remote I/O (RIO) Cabinets and Instrument Power Supply Cabinets (JPU) located on the topsides, driven by equipment obsolescence and concerns regarding the existing flame path integrity and overall protection of the cabinets.

Existing and new instrument cabling, glanding and termination.

Existing and new instrument cabling, glanding and termination.

A total of 35 RIO Cabinets were replaced across various locations on the topsides of the vessel.

These included:

  • 11 Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Cabinets
  • 11 Fire and Gas (FGS) Cabinets
  • 13 Process Control System (PCS) Cabinets

The ESD and FGS cabinets comprised Exd (Flameproof) and Ex  (Increased Safety) sections, while the PCS cabinets were of Exe (Increased Safety) type only.

Additionally, 10 JPU Instrument Power Supply Cabinets of Ex d (Flameproof) design were replaced with 10 Electrical Junction Boxes (EJBs) of Exe (Increased Safety) type, also distributed throughout the topsides.

Alongside the cabinet replacement, approximately 6,000 metres of new power, instrument, and fibre optic cabling were installed. These cables were routed between the new cabinets and their corresponding ICSS cabinets located in the Local Equipment Rooms (LERs). All cabling was installed using a combination of new and existing cable transits and cable containment systems.

EOS Europe completed all glanding, termination, testing and mechanical completion for all equipment and cabling to both client and DnV surveyors’ approval, then deployed qualified technicians to assist the client with commissioning systems throughout the vessels transit to its designated operational site.
